Year 5 students worked on the Unit of Inquiry “Systems”, with the aim of better understanding what a system is and how the interdependence of its parts works. To achieve this, various types of systems were approached in an integrated way, in order to understand how they work together.
During the unit, students visited the Science lab and conducted observation and experimentation work to appreciate the structure and functioning of the different systems of the human body, identifying the different organs that make them up and their functions. They also observed cells through the microscope, which allowed them to see the smallest structure that a living being possesses.
In addition, they simulated the path of food through the digestive system with everyday materials, examined a cow’s lung and heart to understand how they work and how their parts connect with each other.
To conclude the unit, they worked in small groups with the LEGO WeDo+ application, building vehicles and competing in races. They also reflected on the importance of the different parts in forming a whole.As a conclusion, the children reflected on how they too form a system within their class and how each of them is important for the system to function properly. This reflection allowed them to understand the relevance of the interdependence of parts in any system, from biological systems to social and cultural systems.
Los alumnos de quinto año trabajaron en la unidad “Sistemas”, con el objetivo de comprender qué es un sistema y cómo funciona la interdependencia de sus partes. Para lograrlo, se abordaron diversos tipos de sistemas de manera integrada, con el fin de entender cómo trabajan en conjunto.
Durante la unidad, los estudiantes visitaron el laboratorio y realizaron trabajos de observación y experimentación para apreciar la estructura y el funcionamiento de los distintos sistemas del cuerpo humano, e identificar los órganos que los componen y sus funciones. También observaron células a través del microscopio, lo que les permitió ver la estructura más pequeña que un ser vivo posee.
Además, simularon el recorrido del alimento dentro del sistema digestivo con materiales de uso cotidiano, examinaron un pulmón y un corazón de vaca para comprender cómo funcionan y cómo se conectan entre sí sus partes.
Para finalizar la unidad, trabajaron en pequeños grupos con la aplicación LEGO WeDo+, construyendo vehículos y compitiendo en carreras. También reflexionaron sobre la importancia de las distintas partes para formar un todo.
A modo de conclusión, los chicos reflexionaron sobre cómo ellos también forman un sistema en su camada y cómo cada uno de ellos es importante para que el sistema funcione adecuadamente. Esta reflexión les permitió comprender la relevancia de la interdependencia de las partes en cualquier sistema, desde los sistemas biológicos hasta los sistemas sociales y culturales.
