World Down Syndrome / Trisomy 21 Day
Día mundial del Síndrome de Down / Trisomía 21
Olivos & Nordelta – 21 March 2021 // Olivos & Nordelta – 21 de marzo 2021
The United Nations Organisation celebrates Trisomy 21 also known as Down Syndrome on 21 March. This genetic characteristic implies having one more chromosome in the 21st. pair. Hence the date, 21 stands for that chromosomal pair while March stands for 3 chromosomes.
Since syndrome means “group of symptoms that characterise a disease”, it’s not accurate to classify it as such.
In 1958 distinguished French geneticists (Lejeune, Gautier and Turpin) discovered this genetic trait.
We celebrated this day by inviting our Community to support this cause by uploading photos in social media using colourful, fun non matching socks to celebrate our differences and the uniqueness of each individual.
