Visit of Sonja Scherling, an Argentine writer and illustrator
On April 3 rd students from Y5 and Y6 enjoyed the pleasure of the visit of Sonja Scherling, an Agentine writer and illustrator who read her story “Paddle and Pounce go on an iceberg adventure”. We talked and discussed the importance of taking care of our planet, an issue that goes beyond country boundaries. We analyzed the THREE Rs of Planet Care: Reduce, Recycle and Reuse. The story takes place in the North Pole near Canada (Hudson Bay), which is the place on Earth most affected by Global Warming. We learnt about the different species there. Polar Bears are amongst them, and they are the main characters in our story. We learnt a lot about their environment and the way they live their lives. The story was beautiful, and it really captured the audience’s attention.
We really thank Sonja for her time and kindness. She even donated two books for the school that day. We enjoyed a wonderful time together and wish her the best in her next book and career.

El 3 de abril, los estudiantes de Y5 y Y6 disfrutaron de la visita de Sonja Scherling, una escritora e ilustradora argentina que nos leyó su cuento “Paddle and Pounce go on an iceberg adventure”.
Conversamos y debatimos sobre la importancia de cuidar nuestro planeta, un tema que trasciende las fronteras de los países. Analizamos las TRES R del Cuidado del Planeta: Reducir, Reciclar y Reutilizar.
La historia se desarrolla en el Polo Norte, cerca de Canadá (Bahía de Hudson), que es uno de los lugares de la Tierra más afectados por el calentamiento global. Aprendimos sobre las distintas especies que habitan allí. Los osos polares, que son los protagonistas de la historia, están entre ellas. Conocimos mucho sobre su entorno y la forma en que viven.
El cuento fue hermoso y realmente capturó la atención de toda la audiencia.
Agradecemos muchísimo a Sonja por su tiempo y amabilidad. ¡Incluso donó dos libros para la escuela ese día! Disfrutamos de un momento maravilloso juntos y le deseamos lo mejor en su próximo libro y en su carrera.
