Olivos Kindergarten – Bees, Honey & Service
K5 classrooms carried out research on Nature and living beings as part of the Unit of Inquiry: “New beginnings”. The context for this unit is our beautiful back playground where children can observe some of the treasures of Nature like beautiful flowers, native plants, different insects, bees, butterflies, bumblebees, hummingbirds, among others. We were visited by Marina from “Reinas de Corazones”, a beekeeper. She gave us a lot of information about the exciting world of bees and the incredible experience of seeing a real beehive.
Following our school motto, “Friendship and Service”, Kinder 5 held a honey sale and thanks to the generous participation of the whole Kindergarten community, we managed to raise the money needed to donate and buy a beehive that will be given to a rural woman, who will receive training and have her new source of work. Congratulations and thanks to the whole Kindergarten and all the people who collaborated to make this possible!
Las salas de K5 realizaron una investigación sobre la Naturaleza y los seres vivos, como parte de la Unidad de Indagación: “New beginnings”. El contexto de esta unidad es nuestro hermoso back playground donde los niños pueden observar algunos de los tesoros que la Naturaleza nos regala tales como bellas flores, plantas nativas, diferentes insectos, abejas, mariposas, abejorros, colibríes, entre otros. Recibimos la visita de Marina de “Reinas de Corazones”, apicultora. Nos aportó mucha información sobre el apasionante mundo de las abejas, y la increíble experiencia de ver una colmena real.
Siguiendo el lema de nuestro colegio, “Friendship and Service”, Kinder 5 realizó una venta de miel y gracias a la generosa participaciòn de toda la comunidad del Kindergarten, logramos recaudar el dinero necesario para comprar una colmena que serà entregada a una mujer rural, quien recibirá capacitación y tendrá su nueva fuente de trabajo. ¡Felicitaciones y gracias a todo el Kinder y a todas las personas que colaboraron para hacer esto posible!.
