🌎 Celebrating Cultural Diversity: A Week of Learning and Connection at Primary Olivos

Throughout this week, our Primary Olivos community commemorated the Day of Respect for Cultural Diversity in different ways. This special date invites us to learn more about the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas, recognise their valuable contribution to our cultural identity and celebrate the diversity that enriches our continent.
The week began with a special National Commemoration led by our Y2 students, who shared their learning and reflections on this important topic with the whole school community.
We also welcomed Arte y Esperanza, a non-profit organisation that has been promoting dignified work and supporting Indigenous artisans and their families since 1986. Our Primary Library became a craft fair showcasing handmade pieces created by different Indigenous communities across Argentina. Students had the opportunity to explore the exhibition and learn about the stories and traditions behind the creations. During their Library sessions, they also enjoyed stories written or narrated by different Indigenous Peoples of the Americas.
As part of the Arte y Esperanza initiative, two members of the Qom community visited our school. They led a clay workshop with our Y3 students as part of their Unit of Inquiry into the Indigenous Peoples of what is now Argentina. The students learnt some words in Qom and had the opportunity to create beautiful clay crafts. In addition, the visitors held a talk with our Y2 students, sharing insights into their community, way of life and traditions. This was a valuable way to bring the students’ inquiry journey, which had informed the preparation of their Assembly, to a close.
We would like to thank Arte y Esperanza and the members of the Qom community for sharing their knowledge, stories and traditions with us, as well as our teachers and students for making this such a meaningful learning experience.
