17 August: Remembering San Martín in Olivos and Nordelta
This Monday, August the 17th, we commemorated the anniversary of the death of General José de San Martín and, as always, this important date did not go unnoticed in our Primary Schools.
In Olivos, our Year 6 students were in charge of preparing the Assembly and surprised us with a documentary about San Martín’s life that was truly worthy of Netflix. Through a creative and powerful audiovisual production, they shared information about San Martín’s life, his ideals, his liberation campaigns and his fundamental role in the history of our country, showcasing the depth of the inquiry process they had undertaken. To close the Assembly, together with our instrumental music teachers and the Music Department, they treated us to a modern version of the Marcha de San Lorenzo that had us singing its verses throughout the day. The words of Miss Cata, our Head of Primary, stayed with us: “Who would do this today?”
In Nordelta, our Year 5 students presented an incredible adaptation of the play “San Martín, un caballero de principio a fin”, featuring outstanding performances and scenery created by the students themselves. Through theatre, they explored different moments in the life of our national hero, from his early years and ideals to the Crossing of the Andes and his fight for the independence of South America.
Two very different ways of remembering one of our great national heroes, yet equally meaningful. Two productions that not only delighted us with wonderful Assemblies, but also reflected the commitment, creativity and deep conceptual inquiry our students undertook to bring them to life.
Este lunes 17 de agosto conmemoramos un nuevo aniversario del fallecimiento del General José de San Martín y, como siempre, en nuestras Primarias esta fecha no pasó desapercibida.
En Olivos, los alumnos de Y6 fueron los encargados de preparar el acto y nos sorprendieron con un documental sobre la vida de San Martín digno de Netflix. A través de una producción audiovisual creativa y potente, compartieron información sobre la vida de San Martín, sus ideales, sus campañas libertadoras y su papel fundamental en la historia de nuestro país, dando cuenta del profundo proceso de indagación que llevaron adelante. Para cerrar, junto a los profesores de instrumentos y el Departamento de Música, nos regalaron una moderna versión de la Marcha de San Lorenzo que nos dejó cantando sus estrofas durante todo el día. Las palabras de Miss Cata, nuestra Directora de Primaria, quedaron resonando: “¿Quién haría esto hoy?”
En Nordelta, los alumnos de Y5 presentaron una increíble adaptación de la obra teatral “San Martín, un caballero de principio a fin”, con actuaciones estelares y una escenografía creada por ellos mismos. A través del teatro, recorrieron distintos momentos de la vida de nuestro prócer, desde su formación y sus ideales hasta el Cruce de los Andes y su lucha por la independencia de América.
Dos formas muy diferentes de recordar a uno de nuestros grandes héroes de la patria, pero igualmente significativas. Dos propuestas que no solo nos regalaron hermosos actos, sino que también reflejaron el compromiso, la creatividad y el profundo proceso de indagación conceptual que nuestros alumnos llevaron adelante para hacerlos realidad.
