Creativity and Languages in Year 8: Stories with a Personal Touch
Our Year 8 students have shown that learning a new language goes far beyond textbooks. In recent weeks, they immersed themselves in a French project where literature, art and technology came together.
Through the creation of illustrated stories and comic strips, the students reviewed and consolidated the use of the present tense applied to routines, time, frequency, and connectors in French, successfully applying the language in a practical, real, and highly meaningful way to communicate. During this process, they explored sequential narrative texts by structuring their stories, combining visual narrative with the use of both omniscient and first-person narrators. Other skills developed included the synthesis and editing of their ideas, as well as frame composition and perspective. Thus, the French language served as an additional tool to enhance written production, reading comprehension and creative thinking. The project functioned as a cross-curricular bridge that naturally activated the students’ prior knowledge in both art and Language Arts.
Personalization and Technology in the Classroom
To respect different learning paces and styles, the project applied differentiation strategies, allowing each student to choose the format that best suited their talents. The presentation options were:
-Analog Format: Hand-drawn illustrations, enhancing traditional drawing, the tactile experience, disconnection and concentration, the acceptance of mistakes as an opportunity for growth, and visual arts expression.
-Digital Format: Use of the BDnF application, the comic creation tool from the National Library of France, exploring digital design and new technologies.
Emotional Aspect
This activity provided benefits in the development of self-esteem, motivation, and engagement in the creative and learning process. The ability to choose between the analog or digital format reduced frustration and the fear of failure, giving them the freedom to experiment and feel proud of their productions.
We congratulate Year 8 for their enthusiasm, their autonomy, and the excellent linguistic and artistic level demonstrated in their work.
Nuestros alumnos de Year 8 han demostrado que aprender un nuevo idioma va mucho más allá de los libros de texto. En las últimas semanas, se sumergieron en un proyecto de Francés donde la literatura, el arte y la tecnología se encontraron.
A través de la creación de historias ilustradas y cómics, los estudiantes repasaron y consolidaron el uso del tiempo presente aplicado a la rutina, la hora, la frecuencia y los conectores en francés, logrando aplicar el idioma de una manera práctica, real y muy significativa para comunicarse. Durante este proceso, exploraron el texto narrativo secuencial al estructurar sus historias combinando la narrativa visual con el uso de narradores omniscientes y narrador en primera persona. Otras habilidades desarrolladas fueron la síntesis y la edición de sus ideas, la composición de planos y perspectiva. Así, el idioma francés fue una herramienta adicional para potenciar la producción escrita, la comprensión lectora y el pensamiento creativo. El proyecto funcionó como un puente transversal que activó de forma natural los conocimientos previos de los estudiantes en las áreas de arte como de PDL
Personalización y Tecnología en el Aula
Para respetar los distintos ritmos y estilos de aprendizaje, el proyecto aplicó estrategias de diferenciación, permitiendo que cada alumno eligiera el formato que mejor se adaptara a sus talentos. Las opciones de presentación fueron:
-Formato Analógico: Dibujos hechos a mano, potenciando la ilustración tradicional, la experiencia táctil, la desconexión y la concentración, la aceptación del error como oportunidad de crecimiento y la expresión artística plástica.
-Formato Digital: Uso de la aplicación BDnF, la herramienta de creación de cómics de la Biblioteca Nacional de Francia, explorando el diseño digital y las nuevas tecnologías.
Aspecto emocional
Esta actividad brindó beneficios en el desarrollo de la autoestima, la motivación y el compromiso en el proceso creativo y de aprendizaje. La posibilidad de optar entre el formato analógico o digital redujo la frustración y el miedo al fracaso y les dió libertad para experimentar y sentirse orgullosos de sus producciones.
