The power of football in Kindergarten!
Have you noticed just how much the children love chasing a football round the playground? To someone who isn’t used to it, it might just look like a chaotic chase after a bouncing ball. But behind all that energy and laughter, there’s some incredible learning and growth taking place!
When our pre-schoolers play football together, they’re developing much more than just sporting skills. What’s happening behind the scenes?
Strength and coordination: Kicking the ball whilst running requires incredible balance and hand-eye coordination. Children are developing core strength, agility and spatial awareness as they learn to move around the pitch without bumping into their friends.
The magic of teamwork: At this age, children are learning to move from playing alongside each other to playing together. Passing the ball is a major social milestone: it teaches them to share, to trust their teammates and to celebrate a collective goal as a team.
Building resilience: Didn’t reach the ball? Didn’t score a goal? Never mind! Playing with friends provides a safe and supportive space for them to practise dealing with frustration, dusting themselves off and trying again.
Following rules and self-regulation: Remembering the basic rules of the game is a fantastic exercise for their developing brains and their self-control.
Next time you see your children playing with a ball, bear in mind that they’re developing a healthier body, a stronger mind and deeper friendships.
Thank you to Roxy, Pato and the whole PE department for making this possible.
¡No pasa nada!
