Y6 Olivos – Latin America Apps
As part of the UOI “Diversity in Latin America”, Year 6 students inquired into the concepts of culture and diversity. Throughout the unit, they explored the different Latin American biomes and the adaptations of living beings to their environments, as well as endangered animals and the importance of their conservation. They also practiced using maps to deepen their geographical understanding of the topics studied, helping them to integrate knowledge from different perspectives.
To conclude this inquiry, they embarked on a transdisciplinary project that combined research, design, and coding: creating an interactive app to showcase what they had learned about their assigned Latin American country. During their Design & Technology classes, they worked on both the graphic interface and the coding: first designing screens in Canva, and then programming their apps in App Lab.
Finally, they learned how to build simple websites in Google Sites, embedding their apps so they could be shared with a wider audience.
The result was a collection of creative and functional apps that reflected not only their understanding of Latin America but also the development of their technological and creative skills.

Congratulations to our students and teachers!
En el marco de la UOI “Diversidad en América Latina”, los alumnos de Year 6 indagaron los conceptos de cultura y diversidad. A lo largo de las clases, exploraron los distintos biomas latinoamericanos y las adaptaciones de los seres vivos a sus entornos, los animales en peligro de extinción y la importancia de su conservación. También se entrenaron en la utilización de mapas para enriquecer la comprensión geográfica de los temas trabajados, ayudándolos a integrar saberes desde distintas perspectivas.
Como cierre de esta indagación, se embarcaron en un proyecto transdisciplinario que combinó investigación, diseño y programación: crear una aplicación interactiva para mostrar lo aprendido sobre el país latinoamericano asignado. Durante las clases de Design & Technology, trabajaron tanto en la interfaz gráfica como en la programación: primero diseñaron pantallas en Canva y luego programaron sus apps en App Lab.
Finalmente, aprendieron a construir sitios web sencillos en Google Sites, en los que integraron sus aplicaciones para que pudieran ser compartidas con un público más amplio.
El resultado fue una colección de apps creativas y funcionales que reflejan no solo su comprensión sobre América Latina, sino también el desarrollo de sus habilidades tecnológicas y creativas.
