Y5 Elevators
Learning by doing, building through thinking!
As part of the transdisciplinary PYP program and the Systems unit, Year 5 students at Nordelta designed and built hydraulic elevators in the Creative Lab during their Design and Technology classes.
Using syringes, tubing, water, and popsicle sticks, they created mechanisms that allowed them to explore physics concepts in a hands-on way, such as how pressure is distributed in complex hydraulic systems. The four-syringe setup provided greater stability and control, helping them understand the inner workings of these systems.
But that wasn’t all: teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity were at the heart of this experience, making learning active, collaborative, and meaningful.

¡Aprender haciendo, construir pensando!
Dentro del programa transdisciplinario del PEP y en el marco de la unidad sobre Sistemas, los alumnos de Year 5 de Nordelta desarrollaron ascensores hidráulicos en el Creative Lab (Makerspace), como parte de sus clases de Diseño y Tecnología.
Utilizando jeringas, tubos, agua y palitos de helado, construyeron mecanismos que les permitieron experimentar de forma concreta conceptos de física, como la distribución de la presión en sistemas hidráulicos. La configuración con cuatro jeringas les brindó mayor estabilidad y control, y fue clave para comprender el funcionamiento de estos sistemas.
Pero eso no fue todo: el trabajo en equipo, la resolución de problemas y la creatividad fueron protagonistas en esta experiencia que convirtió el aprendizaje en algo activo, colaborativo y significativo.
