Y4 Pledge Allegiance to the Flag

Last Thursday, we commemorated the anniversary of the passing of General Manuel Belgrano, the creator of our National Flag, with a heartfelt and meaningful ceremony filled with history, music, and national pride.
Y4 students, together with some pupils from Y5, made their Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag – a tradition observed across all schools in Argentina that invites children to feel part of a united nation, committing to its freedom, values, institutions, and sovereignty.
Since the beginning of the year, Y4 students have been preparing for this special moment. In their first Unit of Inquiry, they explored the identity of our country, its customs, traditions, and national symbols. Then, in their second unit, they investigated the history of our flag and its creator, delving into the values it represents.
We were once again honoured to welcome the Military Band of the Patricios Regiment, “Tambor de Tacuarí”, joined by Sub-lieutenant Santiago Tito (Belisario’s dad, Y3), who filled our Brightman Hall with powerful music and emotion, performing both national and popular songs. Thank you for joining us on such a meaningful occasion!
We also want to extend our gratitude to the entire Y4 teaching team for their hard work and dedication in preparing this memorable event.

El pasado jueves conmemoramos el paso a la inmortalidad del General Manuel Belgrano, creador de nuestra Bandera Nacional, en un acto lleno de emoción, historia y sentido patriótico.
Los estudiantes de Y4, junto con algunos alumnos de Y5, realizaron su Promesa de Lealtad a la Bandera, una tradición que se extiende por todas las escuelas del país y que invita a niñas y niños a sentirse parte de una misma nación, comprometiéndose a trabajar por su libertad, sus valores y el respeto por sus instituciones y su soberanía.
Desde principios de año, Y4 se preparó con mucho compromiso para este momento tan significativo. En su primera unidad de indagación, exploraron la identidad de nuestro país, sus costumbres, tradiciones y símbolos patrios. Luego, en la segunda unidad, investigaron la historia de la bandera y de su creador, Manuel Belgrano, profundizando en los valores que ella representa.
Durante el acto, tuvimos una vez más el privilegio de recibir a la Banda Militar del Regimiento de Patricios “Tambor de Tacuarí”, acompañada por el Subteniente Santiago Tito (papá de Belisario, alumno de Y3), quienes llenaron nuestro auditorio Brightman Hall de música y emoción, interpretando canciones patrias y también populares. ¡Gracias por acompañarnos con tanta calidez y orgullo en este día tan especial!
También queremos agradecer al equipo docente de Y4 por su enorme trabajo y dedicación en la organización y preparación de esta ceremonia tan significativa.

Last Wednesday, our Year 4 students experienced a heartfelt and meaningful milestone as they gave their “Yes, I promise” to the Argentine flag. The ceremony marked the conclusion of a rich learning unit focused on the values and ideals that shape citizenship. Guided by the novel El árbol de los ruidos y las nueces by Silvia Schujer, the students explored the life of Manuel Belgrano to answer a powerful question: What inspired him to create the national flag? This inquiry led them to reflect on their own identities and that of their school community.
As part of their learning journey, they studied their National Identity Document, reflected on the values that represent them, explored the colours and symbols of national and provincial flags, and created personal family flags. The project culminated in the presentation of their class flag — a collective symbol that brings together what unites them as a group. The ceremony was shared with families, teachers, and school leadership, and was made even more special by the presence of the Tambor de Tacuarí Military Band of the 1st Infantry Regiment “Patricios”, whose music added a note of solemnity to an unforgettable day for our students.

El pasado miércoles, los estudiantes de Year 4 protagonizaron una jornada llena de emoción y significado al dar el “Sí, prometo” a la bandera argentina. El acto, cargado de simbolismo, fue el cierre de una unidad de trabajo en la que los alumnos exploraron los valores e ideales que construyen la ciudadanía. Acompañados por la lectura de la novela El árbol de los ruidos y las nueces, de Silvia Schujer, investigaron la vida de Manuel Belgrano para responder a una pregunta central: ¿Qué lo llevó a crear la bandera? Esa búsqueda los invitó también a reflexionar sobre su propia identidad y la de su comunidad escolar.
Durante el recorrido, analizaron su Documento Nacional de Identidad, identificaron los valores que los representan, exploraron los colores y símbolos de las banderas nacionales y provinciales, y diseñaron una bandera familiar. Como cierre del proyecto, presentaron la bandera de la camada, una creación colectiva que reúne aquello que los une como grupo. La ceremonia contó con la presencia de las familias, del equipo docente y directivo, y fue acompañada con orgullo por la Banda Militar Tambor de Tacuarí del Regimiento de Infantería 1 “Patricios”, que con su música aportó solemnidad a un momento inolvidable para nuestros alumnos.
