Flag Day Ceremony – Nordelta Secondary
As part of the activities leading up to the June 20th Flag Day ceremony, Year 8 students participated in a meaningful interdisciplinary project within the subject Global Perspectives, centered on the concept of identity.
In Global Perspectives, students are encouraged to explore real-world issues through multiple lenses (personal, local, national, and global) while also developing essential skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. In this particular project, the aim was to reflect on the meaning of identity and how it connects to our sense of belonging, our national symbols, and the values we share as a community.
Throughout the process, students worked collaboratively and took ownership of every stage of the project. They began by discussing the topic in class and then moved on to design the structure and focus of the video. A key component of the work involved developing their communication skills: thinking about how to express their ideas clearly, how to ask meaningful questions, and how to actively listen and engage in dialogue with others through interviews.
After drafting their questions, they conducted interviews with members of the community to explore different perspectives on identity. They then recorded and edited the video themselves, and finally prepared a closing reflection that brought together the ideas and insights gathered during the process.
The result is a powerful and thoughtful video that not only reflects their creativity and teamwork, but also their ability to communicate meaningfully and respectfully. It is also an invitation for all of us to pause and reflect on who we are, as individuals and as a society.
En el marco de la preparación para el acto del 20 de junio, Día de la Bandera, los estudiantes de Year 8 llevaron adelante un proyecto especial desde la materia Global Perspectives, centrado en el concepto de identidad.
Desde Global Perspectives, se invita a los alumnos a explorar temas relevantes del mundo actual desde distintas perspectivas (personal, local, nacional y global) y al mismo tiempo, a desarrollar habilidades clave como el pensamiento crítico, la colaboración y, muy especialmente en este caso, la comunicación.
A lo largo del proyecto, los estudiantes no solo reflexionaron sobre el concepto de identidad y su relación con los símbolos patrios y los valores compartidos, sino que también trabajaron de manera activa en cómo comunicar sus ideas con claridad, cómo formular preguntas significativas, cómo escuchar con atención y cómo generar un espacio de diálogo con otros a través de entrevistas. Diseñaron en conjunto las preguntas, seleccionaron a los entrevistados, realizaron las grabaciones, editaron el material y finalizaron el proceso con una reflexión colectiva, en la que integraron las distintas miradas que surgieron a lo largo del trabajo.
El resultado es un video que refleja no solo su creatividad y compromiso, sino también su capacidad para comunicar de manera clara, respetuosa y reflexiva. Una invitación a pensar, entre todos, qué nos define y cómo construimos nuestra identidad como personas y como sociedad.
