World Environment Day – Service Day

World Environment Day – Service Day

Día Mundial del medio ambiente

Nordelta & Olivos, June 2018 - What's going on?

On this second Service Day we took the opportunity to celebrate World Environment Day. When commemorating dates related to caring for the environment, NORTHLANDS seeks to create moments of awareness and active participation for our students. We wish to encourage them to become socially committed in their community to engage in actions leading to a more sustainable world.

As a theme of reflection, this year we worked on raising awareness about the use of plastic.

Kindergarten organized an assembly that was focused on recycling and reducing plastic. The children had the opportunity to reflect on what things made of plastic can be recycled and which are non-recyclable and we need to reduce its use. On this opportunity, the children reflected on the use of “drinking with straws” and how we can replace or reduce their use. Some of their conclusions were:

“We can use just glasses”, “We can tell our parents not to use straws”, “We can reuse them” and “We can make arts & crafts out of them”

Also, once again Olivos´ Kinder 5 children visited Nordelta site where they shared experiences and ideas on how to take care of the planet. This way, they shared a day together to bond and build a sense of community.

They reflected on the importance of reducing the use of plastic and trash in general, created flyers to generate awareness and start building sustainable habits.

Here go some green tips:

“If you go to the supermarket, take your own bag.”

“If you are offered a straw, say no thank you.”

Primary Nordelta gathered in an Assembly at the SUM, where two Year 6 students and members of the Green Patrol, Lorenzo and Kai, made a presentation on Environmental Matters to all Primary pupils and teachers in Nordelta.

We also invited our community to come dressed in casual yellow clothes in reference to the colour that represents plastic recycling.
